Revelation Empty Revelation

Post  Djehuty Mon Aug 29, 2011 9:43 pm

We enter the Barrow and each of us assumes the posture best associated with the physical and psychological drain of the evening; Liv sinks into the couch, Ignacy curls up in a fetal position in the corner... (Surprisingly, he could almost be the pathetic cute that causes us to adopt wet puppies) Liam paces and I collapse into my claimed chair. "Lets not do that again some time soon." My voice is tired... fencing with the Tuck was exhausting., then the attack finished of what was left of my emotional blocks. "At least it was worth something..."

"Gods forefend he give us a straight answer of course, féadfaidh an fear a damned ag déithe." I groan, sitting up as I curse the Puck. "The Great Bard and the Lady of Imbas. Really helpful. Really helpful."

I glower across at her. "Your the bard here... Isn't there a name that bares that title? He said something about the Great Bards bastard line when he acknowledged me, so I'd assume its known among the fay." I massage my temples and reach for the tea tray on the coffee table, pouring myself a cup with little ceremony.

I sigh, sinking back into the softness of the couch cushions, closing my eyes and letting myself think. Djhuety's right, I am a bard. It is my place to know and remember, not to rail and complain. I let memories flow through me.
"No bard of the Kin would ever call themselves the Great Bard. It's like calling yourself World's Strongest Man, presumptuous and foolhardy. But I've heard that name..." I sit up thoughtfully, then snap my fingers. "They call Shakespeare the Great Bard. Shakespeare. He was a man, but he was well liked by the Sidhe and the Tuatha courts, and many others, for his fine words and his bard's gift. And that fits the time frame of the pictures in the album as well, now I come to think of it…" I glance over at Djhuety, whose face is set in a puzzled frown.

"Isn't it a little... off... to claim blood relation to the wordsmith?" I drink, clasping my cup in both hands while seated cross legged in the chair. "It does fit. Puck said the bard's son died and drove him to the brink of madness. Shakespeare was to be committed to Bedlam after Hamnet's death. He recovered, and went on to pen his greatest works after. Some thought it was the death of his child that pushed him so far into his writing."

"Exactly." I say, leaning forward, "Just as the Puck said. This Lady of Imbas rekindled his fire, healed his heart. It makes sense! One of the Sidhe healed him, and more than that, inspired him. It fits! And what other human would have had the power of words that you do than him? Think about it. He was so great that even the Kindred admitted his brilliance. That's a hell of a feat for a human. And you've got the same strength."

"I haven't a fifth of his gift for language, but it makes sense that they would introduce a bardic line to meld with their own gifts." My cup forgotten on an available end table, I lean forward, eyes luminous in the dim room.

“The Puck said your blood ran from the Bard and the Lady of Imbas….Lady of Imbas…” I look up, my mind racing, my eyes on Djhuety’s. “Shakespeare.…and the Lady of Imbas…Imbas...Inspiration it means, fire in the heart.....” then my eyes widen as everything we've seen, everything we know suddenly comes into focus, perfect in its sense and symmetry. “Of course," I breathe, "Of course. What a fool I have been. Djhuety, your friend in school. Lenan.”

Confusion and a hint of anger ring my eyes. "What of Leanan? She's gone." I can't help the bitterness in my tone.

I shake my head. "Only for a time, if she is who I think she is. No one could hold that Lady." I draw a deep breath. “If I am right, then Lenan was only what you heard. If I am right, then her proper name to speak is Lianhahn Sidhe. She is the only one of the Kindred known as the Lady of Imbas, giver of Inspiration.” The very name seems to ring in the air, full of power.

I stop my pacing long enough to look long and hard at Dejhuty for all this "who was it that said 'once you eliminate the impossible, what remains, however improbable, is true." a soft growl in my tone. "Yes there are other muses but none that i have ever heard of with the sheer reputation. Even I have heard of her." my voice gets a little more accented as I struggle to hold to English "I understand not feeling like you have home and Croft or a family to come home too." i pause for a breath "But to have it laid out before you like a gods feast and to deny it I do NOT understand." here I lean against the wall to keep from pulling him out of his chair.

"Only Lianhahn Sidhe holds that name.” I say quietly, giving her name the courtly pronunciation it deserves, drawing it out so that it sounds more like ‘laayanan’, with a lilt to it. “Only she bears the title for this time. She is first among the poets of the Sidhe, and as such first among all poets. The very name she wears translates as ‘Inspiration’. She is first among filidh and singers. The patron of the imbas, the inspiration. And I’ve been an idiot. I should have remembered. Red hair. Linhahn Sidhe has russet hair. Red as a fox’s pelt.”

"Occam's razor aside, I don't cling to that which is not mine... I wish proof beyond the reasonable doubt." I hunch in a brooding manner, arching my back and casting my eyes into shadow. "And of course you've seen her in those dreams you told me of."

Revelation Empty re:revelation

Post  Liv Mon Aug 29, 2011 11:10 pm

“I saw her, once. Before that. When I got this.” I say reflectively, my voice quiet, lifting my sleeve and tapping the hazelnut tattooed on my shoulder, “It is Linhahn Sidhe who names a youngster worthy to be marked for the Hazel Road, and gives them the right to call themselves Bard. Every ten years, the Sidhe open one of their Halls, and there Linhahn Sidhe listens and decides the worth of a song, a tale, a piece of music and the heart from which it comes. I remember seeing her at the other end of the Hall, listening to each of us there as we worked our crafts, with her red hair shining in the firelight and her laugh brighter than a skylark’s. She was darkness and light, and all the joy and sorrow in a thousand songs.” I smile wistfully. “One of the greatest and most terrifying nights of my life. I thought I’d choke on my own tongue when it was my turn.” I shake my head a little, setting the memory aside. “And Linhahn gave no care to the Kind you came from. She even took humans into her Hall, and gave them her gift of the Imbas and her blessing along with Kindred bards. She’d give a human a chance to be a Bard just as she would a Kinsman. What mattered was the art, not the blood. I remember her announcing that to the Hall, the first night we all arrived for the Hazel Trials. She was free with her blessing to men. Though that didn’t always turn out so well.”

I nod slowly, trying to decide how to explain it, then speak carefully. “Linhahn Sidhe can give a gift, a gift of inspiration, awaken the sleeping passion and kindle the hidden talent in a heart that already contains it. Once you prove yourself at the Hazel Trials, she gives that gift to you, and it augments the gift she already sees in you. Nearly all bards carry Linhahnan’s Imbas. But her gift…well, it’s hard on Men.”

“ What she awakens in you, it’s all the sorrows, all the joys, all the pain that must be poured into your art to make it a true thing and a magic one," I continue slowly, "but men don’t react well to having their passions and emotions ignited. Basically, they can’t take emotions of such breadth. They catch alight with it, but they burn out fast. Most of them can’t seem to burn steady like Kindred bards do. She never meant to harm, I think, but men are ruined when such great heights and depths of passion become theirs. Many men have asked for her gift, or been given it, but few have been happy with it. It’s not her fault that mankind can’t take true passion.”

"Liv." I sigh "it is more then that, one could argue that the passions which you are so proud of were bought at cost aswell." i pause to choose my words carefully "For having that breadth of emotion they also seem to have lower tolerance for physical irritants" I tilt my head "or am I incorrect?"

"But the works of men are often held of highest regard to the Kindred, often greater then their own in some circles... mayhaps the flame that burns brightest burns shortest; The pain and passion igniting to make something truly great in a way that close guarded emotions never can." I interject...

I tip my head from side to side, considering. "In a way...it's...difficult to explain. Humans have a passion, a drive, that is hard to grasp when you've got thousands of years to live. The way men live, it's…different to Kindred life. In Kindred land time passes, but things don’t change, not really. In that world, if you live deep inside it, away from the borders with other worlds, Time becomes inconsequential, and you live in the moment. It becomes hard to think of anything as all that important, hard to care, because you become adapted to a world with very little cause and effect. But in the world of men, everything's life or death. Everything's more raw, more sharp, more...definite. That passion is what draws the Kin to Man, even in these days.”

I nod at both their words, mine lost in the shuffle. "you are both missing the point. and we have gotten well off topic." my old smirk returns slowly "you are both right and wrong, and either way Dejhuty, we found your familly it is up to you what you do with the information. besides you have Williams chin and eye shape." I tilt my head "which for most would be a good indication of breeding"

I nod. "Yes. A starting point." I say slowly, thinking, then taking a deep breath. "And if we want answers, I know our first step." I look up into the faces of my friends, my face set and calm. "Sidhe Ban, the White Hill. The home of Lihnahn Sidhe. We need to go to Sidhe Ban."
