The lot of us are soon ready, Kaija and Kiou staying close to each other. Liv and Dejhuty stealing small touches as if worried this might be the last time they can embrace. Sori and I both stand apart bot from the two groups and from each other, watching the by play and preparing in our own ways, me running though what I have to do, doing I don't know what. I check the gun again the portal Liv and I had dropped in that cave is still active, my spear was sharpened the night before and the clothing I wear was reinforced with Kevlar and Ceramics as well as having some brass chain in the layers, I am unsure as to what the others have for defense but hopefully what we can all muster is enough.

the coat was heavy with all the gear i had, a couple of mk 2 american frag grenades in my pocket my not so trusty usp in its holster under my armpit, i had lined steel plating along the coat and a layer of padding on top of that, across my chest i had a western style pistol belt with a revolver in the middle, across my back i had my sword loosened in its holster and in the hand i had my shotgun loaded with slugs and dragonfire shells and across the sling i had loaded different types of shells.

i sighed as i walked a little to the left and behind the rest of the group, i adjusted my cap and put a cigarette in my mouth i steal fire from a candlelight sitting in a window we pass and light it.

Kiou walked silently with them. Her sandals soft on in road they traveled. She was lightly dressed in her kimono though the house had provided her with a matching vest that she was told would stop bullets; whatever they were. All she cared about was that it was lighter than the armor her grandfather had put her it. His samurai armor always felt like she was swimming in a bog. Wearing just this should suffice enough for her.

She looked over to Sori and watched her light a cigarette. Once they were done here, she would have to figure out a way to make Sori give up on her other self. Of course, first she had to figure out how to become the main personality... Once she had that, then everything would be hers.

Her gaze moved to the front to pay attention and catch and possible hints of attack.

i inhale a puff of smoke and feel the nicotine rushing through my veins, i sling the shotgun over my shoulders and lift my hand up to face, i look at it two stumps where fingers should be i sigh i always knew this day would come when my body could no longer reproduce itself, i steal a glance at kiou and unholster and drop the magazine on the pistol to check if its full.

Glancing over my friends, I draw in a calming breath. We're all nervous, all anxious. But we can but do our best, and hope. Hope like hell.
I turn my head, glancing down the street, missing the usual sweep of my hair, tied now into a tight bun. Against my wrists, my silver cuffs press, good glamoury aids. In the pockets of my denim jacket I can feel everything that might come handy; salt, rowan berries, hawthorn wood and ash wood, as well as cayenne pepper and a bottle of mace. Nothing better. My knife is back in its sleeve sheath, close at hand, and my bag is packed for every eventuality. I can only hope it will be enough.
As we weave through the Nightside streets, dashing across streets in the bare breaks in traffic and avoiding eye contact in general, I take Djhuety's hand. He squeezes it, and I can feel my heart flutter. What will come will come. But at least he is beside me.
The Doormouse's establishment is quite a nice, well appointed emporium of white clapboard style with green trim. A little bell rings over the door, and the Doormouse comes bustling up. Six feet tall, impeccable in grey flannel tweed that accents his fur nicely, he greets us in a genially ebulliant style and a voice like a fussy book-seller. "Hello hello and welcome to my little shop! If you're looking for anything in particular, by all means ask, I have something for everyone in my little place. Vacations, adventures, trips to Hawaii for a little sun, or the Moon if the mood takes you, or...." then his beady black eyes freeze, and his nose twitches, before he goes all a-twitter again, bustling forward. "Miss Atwater! My my, Miss Colleen Atwater, so good to see you again! Lovely as ever miss, lovely as ever!" he bends over my hand, and gives it a very odd and rather whiskery kiss. "Seventy eight years and I don't think you've aged a day! Still as young and lovely as ever. You fae are so very lucky in that respect, I must say." I smile lightly. "It's good to see you again, Dorian. I see your knack is paying off."
"Oh.A bit, a bit." he agrees, looking over his doors, rank upon rank of them, stretching away unsupported or hung on the walls like ornaments. Every color, every variety of materiel is here. He turns back, rubbing his hands. "Miss Atwater, I've heard a rumor of an apartment whose doors can lead to any place the owner wishes. You wouldn't be....perhaps?" I smile, with a private glance for my beloved. "That is not my power, nor my doing, dear Dorian." I find myself slipping into the Victorian speech style as I speak to him; I met him in 1892, and the time and the place comes back forcibly with the man-mouse. "Of course, of course, how silly of me." he murmurs busily, patting my hand. Politely, I pull it away.

The Doormouse shoots a look at Sori, and then a pointed look at the sign reading 'please do not smoke' in neat, fussy handwriting. I could have told him that wouldn't work. After a moment, he even tries a officious little disapproving cough; 'ahem!'

I smile dryly. "Down girl."
The Doormouse's nose twitches. "Oh my oh my, miss Atwater, I'm afraid your companions are of rather lower quality this time."
"They are of a different quality, that is true." I reply genially, "But I find them far finer." Again, the twitch of the whiskers. "Well, well, I'm sure. Each to his own, I'm very sure, never let it be said I'm one to pass judgments. Though you must say, miss Atwater, you must say...well." His tail twitched uncomfortably.
"I'd rather like to charter passage." I remark quietly. This gets his attention and his approval. He rubs his paws together. "Of course, dear miss, of course! Where would you like?"
"Tintagel Isle."
His ears perk forward. "Oh, Tintagel? Lovely place, lovely. Very senic ruins, tourists take reams of pictures."
"Yes, quite lovely." I comment, interrupting the twaddle, "could you be getting us there?"
"My dear lady, of course!" he squeaks, clapping his paws. "Right this way, right this way!" With a twitch of his tail, he turns, bustling away.

I can't help but smile, noting that some doors appear to be gone since the places they led too are no more, and Intensely glad that Ignacy and i no longer look like we would have durring the war. "we will also likely need to negotiate a return trip, but we do not know how long we will be Master Mouse." I try to look more warm and welcoming and less about to kill whatever steps in front of me.

Quiet as a door mouse, louder then a bomb Empty re:arrangments

Post  Liv Sat May 05, 2012 12:45 pm

I glance at her, thinking my answer over.
"Here and now, Tintagel is a ruined castle, old, long a monument. There's power there, but it's old power, calm, steady. The place itself won't give much more danger than the chance of falling off the cliffs or twisting an ankle. But from there...." I pause. "When we get there, I'll tell you." I murmur, not wanting the Doormouse to overhear with those great ears of his.
The doormouse twists a door, and it opens. The smell of the sea is sharp and sweet.
"And my fee?"
"Will be paid on our return, as always." I reply sweetly. "Come along, all."
Squaring my shoulders, I step through the door.
The sunlight is bright after the Nightside, sweet on my skin, and for a moment I indulge myself in the smell of the sea and the grass. Then I open my eyes. Tintagel hill stretches away, grey and emerald green, marked with the remains of what had been a castle long, long ago. We have stepped out in what once would have been the keep, only a low ring of stone foundations now, a sweet and melancholy site sleeping in the sun.
Here and there, a few tourists are poking about. I raise my voice in a short tune, casting a simple glamour that will leave us unnoticed.
"Tintagel." I state quietly.

"We're not staying here." I reply quietly, "Never fear. I only need find the place, and then I'll get us where we need to go. And that's when the trouble might start. We'll not be on Kindred land, but a place like it. It's a very, very old place. Old and dangerous power. And with the call, people will be coming. They'll be attracted. They'll be under a pact, but....keep your guards up."

I sigh. "It's...hard to put in words you'll understand. It's the power of belief, and imagination, and memory. This place is...a place that is in all our minds, deep down somewhere. The idea of a high hill and the rights of leaders, the right to respect and obedience to authority. It's...it's not a place. It's the idea of a place. You could say it's the idea of authority, the idea of kingship. But it's raw, full of...I guess it's un-shaped power. Be careful what you focus on, what you think. Words have power there, as do thoughts." I glance at Kiou. Perhaps taking her there was a bad idea...but no help for it now.

Kiou watched Liv a moment before looking over the area. "I will do as you ask though I fail to see how this new world is any different from the ever-changing world that we left." Her words were flat and uncaring as she stood at the ready surveying the area.

"That place is just sections of reality haphazardly slammed together." I reply quietly. "This place isn't reality as you know it. It's more like a myth made real. And it's much more....flexible than what you're used to. That makes it dangerous in itself. And then there's who we're meeting. So, keep your focus, keep calm, and be wary."

I turn to her, meeting her eyes. "On the contrary. I have you measured rather well, I think. You are very capable. And you are human, and volatile, and full of anger. You can fight, but you are born to the world of men. This is the Land we're walking into. The spirit world, if you like. I'm Kindred born, and I was raised in a world closer to the Land than to the world you are born to. I've walked these places before. They change depending on the one who looks at them. I know how to calm my heart and my head to walk there. But you are untrained and untried and not easy in your mind. That's a danger. Your mind needs to be in control as much as your sword, where we go. Go in cock sure and it'll have you by the throat." For a long moment, I hold her gaze. "Can you be as disciplined in your body as you are in your mind, warrior?"

Kiou smirked. "So it is just me then. Good to know." She looked ahead of them as she took Sori's words to heart. Though she didn't like Sori in the least, she had given her a stab at Liv. And that, was enough to ebb away at the urge to kill her. "You tell me about steeling my mind yet you request aid from a person who uses insanity and blood rage as a means of attack." She chuckled softly. "Lead the way leader. Unless you would rather talk more about the weakness of my mind."

I sigh, an annoyed breath. "I must be mad. Mad as a march hare." Hands in my pockets, I turn. "Come on if you're coming. Let's go."
Our little troop may be odd, but at least we're all nimble and strong; clambering over Tintagel hill is no trouble. I pause now and again.Somewhere will be the heart of power, and I can feel it like the heat of the sun, giving me a direction to my wandering. The others trail behind me, Sori and Liam bringing up the rear, looking watchful.

"Kiou, she was not claiming your mind is weak, but your people have less touch with this aspect then most, she is trying to give you, and the rest of us a warning, we were not raised in kindred lands, and in truth, I would take the warning and quit looking for insult. For this we need to be as unified as the layers in your sword blade" I take a slow breath "You to be the discipline balancing sori's zeal." I as I turn back I murmur when passing close to live "no you were as mad as a pair of march hares over the last few days."
